Our teeth are very important for us because even the slightest problem with the appearance of our teeth may unfavorably affect our social life. Good-looking teeth have a positive effect on people’s lives. If you have an eye-catching smile, it makes you high in self-confidence, and enhances your social communication. Problems affecting the smile of an individual are gaps between the teeth, distortions, darkened teeth, problems with the gums, discolored crowns and darkened dental fillers. Laminates (i.e. veneers made of porcelain), porcelain fillers and full ceramic crowns are among the most commonly applied materials in aesthetic dentistry. In addition, determining the smile that is best suited to your face is another particular issue. First, the physician examines the patient to determine the tooth size and tooth shape that suit the patient’s face, and see the relation between the teeth. Then, clinical photographs are taken of patient, joint decisions are made in consultation with him/her, and then the procedure is performed. In this process, the procedure is performed by considering the patient’s teeth, mouth condition, and expectations. Some of the procedures in aesthetic dentistry are teeth whitening, implant placement, orthodontic treatments, endodontics (i.e. root canal treatment), and laser treatment. All of these procedures are performed under physician’s control.
What are the objectives of aesthetic dentistry?
The general objective of aesthetic dentistry is to design healthy smiles suitable for the person. If you have shapeless teeth, the objectives of aesthetic dentistry include: to correct such teeth by achieving a natural appearance; to reveal a nice smile with healthy teeth and gums after all treatments; and to achieve a natural appearance for smiles with aesthetically beautiful teeth.
When should implant treatment be performed?
In aesthetic dentistry, implant treatment is performed in cases of partial and complete missing teeth. If you have lost one or more teeth, dental implants used in such cases can be applied with intent to substitute them. If dentures cannot be kept in place and if the patient has nauseous reflexes caused by dentures in case of complete missing teeth, implant treatment is performed.
Why do teeth lose their whiteness, and is there any age limit for teeth whitening?
There are many factors for the loss of teeth whiteness. The principal ones of these factors include old age, consumption of certain substances that colors the teeth such as coffee, cigarettes, coke, etc., discolored crowns and fillers, traumas, antibiotics used during pregnancy, and fluoride consumption. The teeth whitening procedure can be performed on many people; however, it is not recommended for people younger than 16 because their neural structure is not suitable for it. In addition, pregnant women and those who have excessive tooth sensitivity should also avoid teeth whitening treatment.
What are the conditions that require root canal treatment?
If you have dental caries expending in the course of time, you may feel pains that may initially be mild but then gradually get worse. There are pulp, blood, lymphatic tissue and nerve in the tooth structure. The pulp dies if it gets damaged and unable to renew itself, and also creates a considerable inflammation. With root canal treatment, the unhealthy pulp is removed from its place, and then the canal is treated. A root canal treatment should be concluded with the minimum number of sessions.
In which situations is orthodontic treatment performed?
If you have dental and facial deformities, orthodontic treatment is a diagnosis and treatment utilized in such a process. Orthodontic treatment usually involves the use of regulative apparatus such as brackets. When these apparatus are used regularly, the teeth are corrected, dental deformities and misaligned jaw disorders are eliminated, and the teeth and lips are aligned properly.
